Choir

What would four years look like for a choir student?
As our program grows, we are looking toward where we want to be.

Currently, there is one choir class available with students from all grades coming together to make music. Over time, we hope to see more options: beginning treble choir, beginning tenor/bass choir, select treble choir, a combined concert choir, and an elite chamber group. Auditions will be required for select, combined, and elite groups.

As a freshman in choir, a student would expect to be in one of the beginning groups. Soprano or Alto voices would be in the treble group, and Tenor or Bass voices would be in the tenor/bass group.

As a sophomore in choir, a student is likely to audition successfully for a more experienced group. Soprano or Alto students would likely be in the select treble group. Tenor or Bass students would either gain more knowledge in another year of the beginning group or would move up to the combined concert choir.

As a junior in choir, students have usually gained the knowledge and skills necessary to be a part of the combined concert choir. They also may be eligible to audition for the chamber choir. This choir is the largest and attends all festivals and CHSAA events possible.

As a senior in choir, students would be the leaders in the program. They are in the more experienced groups and have increased opportunities for leadership roles and a place in the chamber choir. Additionally, with more years of experience they are more likely to be ready for the chamber group, performing the most challenging and rewarding music in the program. Seniors are also eligible for a choir scholarship which we are starting this year.

Every year is unique. Though events may be the same from one year to the next, EVERY concert is a new set of music and brings new chances for learning for the students. Common topics each semester include reading and writing music, correct technique for singing, caring for your instrument, artistry and musicianship, cultural connections to different music, exploration of various genres and styles, and much more. These topics can be expanded on over time. Most musicians continue to refine all these skills throughout their career, proving that there is plenty to learn with each performance. Furthermore, moving to a higher auditioned group gives students ownership of their abilities and growth and provides chances to learn more depth on each of the topics we explore in choir.

Instrumental Music

The instrumental music program at Evergreen is a very active, comprehensive, and competitive program. Enrollment in each ensemble is full-year and requires class fees and performance uniforms. Every student who participates in a performing ensemble should expect at least one in-state (or overnight in-state) competition trip and should plan accordingly before they audition for the ensemble. Participation in all concerts, performances, extra rehearsals, competitions and trips are required.

We offer:
Orchestra (Strings)
Orchestra Advanced
Jazz/Contemporary Band
Concert Band/Symphonic
Guitar
Instrumental Ensemble~Percussion
