Emergency Alert System: What to Expect

We are committed to leveraging the best technology to keep our students and staff safe. As was previously shared, Evergreen High School is among the first four Jeffco schools currently transitioning to and piloting the Raptor Emergency Management system—a premier emergency management platform designed to accelerate our response times during critical situations.

The Raptor Emergency Management system is designed to be highly accessible so that any staff member can call for help instantly. However, this ease of use—and as staff members become used to the new technology—may result in accidental activations during our initial phase of staff training.

When the system is activated at school, students and staff may hear the following:

  • Cell phone alert: School staff members who have the Raptor app downloaded onto their phones will receive an “Amber or Critical” alert. It will either sound like beeps or a loud foghorn, and repeat, “Raptor Emergency Alert” three times.
  • PA Announcement: Shortly after the cell phone alert, you will hear an automated announcement over the intercom stating what type of emergency it is.

Please note: there can be up to a 30-second delay from initial activation via Raptor to when the automatic PA announcement goes off. This is normal and expected. Also note that lockdown drills are conducted at schools annually.

  • CLICK HERE to review emergency alert scenarios and listen to audio recordings of what the alerts sound like so students know what to expect, are prepared, and know what to do in the event of an emergency.
  • View the district’s Standard Response Protocol
